  7.     ABU NIDAL may be the world's most wanted terrorist, but
  8. you wouldn't know it these days. The 1980s' mastermind of such
  9. horrific attacks as the bombings of an Istanbul synagogue and
  10. the Rome and Vienna airports now keeps an office in Jidda, has
  11. held meetings with French and British government officials and
  12. goes on shopping sprees in London's West End for hand-tailored
  13. suits and Cuban cigars. Seems the Saudis have become his
  14. sponsors. Their time-honored calculus: the enemy of my enemy is
  15. my friend. Abu Nidal is the blood enemy of P.L.O. chief Yasser
  16. Arafat, who backed Saddam Hussein during the gulf war. The heat
  17. on Abu Nidal is down so low that he reportedly was able to slip
  18. into a Boston hospital last summer for surgery.
